Worcester’s Top Restaurant Groups Team Up for ‘No Kid Hungry’

The One Eleven Chophouse at its Shrewsbury Street home in Worcester, MA

Competition in Worcester’s restaurant scene has never felt hotter.

While local entrepreneurs continue to raise the dining bar, the city’s culinary giants have no qualms about coming together if it means putting food on the table to support children in need. The annual ‘No Kid Hungry’ dinner is the sort of event that showcases just what makes Worcester so exceptional.

Monday, March 12th marks the third annual ‘No Kid Hungry’ dinner hosted by Worcester Restaurant Group at the 111 Chop House. The multi-course wine dinner will benefit ‘No Kid Hungry,’ an initiative by Share Our Strength that aims to end child hunger in America by connecting young people and their families to healthy, affordable meals. Proceeds from the evening will help local families learn to shop using nutrition information to make healthier choices while preparing affordable meals.

Worcester Restaurant Group is joined by Niche Hospitality Group, Sonoma Restaurant, Romaine’s, and Smokestack Urban Barbecue. A dessert course will be prepared by Worcester Technical High School Culinary Department. The evening will begin with a sparkling wine reception and passed hors d’oeuvres. Main courses feature Serrano wrapped swordfish, duck breast with roasted sweet potato puree, and a slow braised short rib.

Local partners benefiting from the night include Alternatives Unlimited, Community Healthlink, Family Health Center of Worcester, Fanning Learning Center, Webster Public Schools, Worcester Community Action Council, Worcester Family Partnership, Worcester Head Start and YOU Inc. A very limited number of tickets remain.

Late Summer Dining Destinations

A BBQ Plate from Smokestack Urban BBQ when they were at their original location.

If summer vacation is like a really long weekend, that makes August a lazy Sunday. Enjoy the last gasp of summer with some casual outdoor favorites.

Grill on the Hill’s open deck is the perfect spot to catch a sunset. The food is simple and the views are divine. Pounce on a lobster roll while they last.

Caffe Espresso Trattoria offers a little outdoor oasis tucked behind Chandler Street – one of Worcester’s best kept summer secrets. There’s a special patio menu with plenty of tasty appetizers to accommodate leisurely gatherings for friends and family alike. All of the pastas are made in house, light and fresh for an August evening.

Sit under the twinkling lights at Lakeside Bar and Grille and treat yourself to orders of Buffalo Fried Calamari and Nachos. At Lakeside, the food is hearty, the following is loyal, and the price is right.

There’s nothing quite like sitting outside at Smokestack Urban Barbecue with a Bustin’ Sampler Plate – an array of tiny tin buckets that overflow with treats. We promise the honey-habanero wings and the jalapeno stuffed quesadillas will keep it steamy on a summer night.
