Chicken Vegetable Stack from Livia’s Dish

Chicken Vegetable Stack from Livia's Dish on Main Street in Worcester, MA
Livia’s Dish is a great little find tucked away down on Main street, past Webster Square. Their hours are little odd, they don’t serve dinner on Sunday, Monday or Tuesdays, but they do serve breakfast and lunch every day. The prices are reasonable with a nice selection of Italian/Mediterranean based cuisine and the staff was both friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu.

Their twist on bread with dinner is toasted crusty bread with hummus. The bread had a great crunch but still had a nice soft center and the house made hummus was excellent.

For dinner I had the Chicken Vegetable Stack, which was grilled chicken layered with zucchini, squash, tomatoes and eggplant, topped with a lemony sauce and some pecorino cheese. I had this with a side of mixed vegetables, zucchini, squash and carrots. The presentation of this dish is excellent, the layering showing off the different colors nicely. The sauce was light and lemony and thick enough to stick to the food but not so thick it overpowered. The chicken was grilled perfectly, juicy and tender and the vegetables were also cooked perfectly, keeping enough texture to stand up to the chicken while not being undercooked. Everything tasted great individually and really worked together nicely. The portion size was excellent. Enough to be filling but not so much to leave you over stuffed, overall a great value for an excellent meal.

Grilled Chicken & Ravioli

Grilled Chicken & Ravioli from Joey's Bar and Grill on Chandler Street in Worcester, MA

Grilled Chicken & Ravioli from Joey's Bar and Grill on Chandler Street in Worcester, MA

Joey’s Bar and Grill is well renowned in many Worcester circles, yet I have only been there once before our Foodies meeting. I was looking forward to trying their food for a second time and I was not disappointed. This time I was able to choose from the regular menu or the Restaurant Week menu which featured three courses with several choices in each course. I went with a creamy chicken, spinach and mushroom soup that was delicious – I had been craving soup and this hit the spot!

For my main course I had the grilled chicken & ravioli which was described as “grilled chicken breast with spinach tossed in a roasted yellow pepper cream sauce over spinach and garlic ravioli.” When the plate arrived, I was pleased to see that the cream sauce was minimally drizzled on top of the chicken and ravioli instead of coating it completely. The two medium chicken breasts were moist and perfectly grilled. The ravioli were nicely arranged with more of the delicious yellow pepper sauce on top, however they were quite tasty on their own! This was a simple dish the components were well executed and I was pleased with my choice. The portion was perfect – had I not been saving room for dessert I may have finished it but since there was a macadamia nut cookie sundae calling my name, I enjoyed half of the entree for lunch the next day.

After our visit I can certainly see why Joey’s is popular amongst Worcesterites.  The food is reliable and tasty and the menu is has something for everyone.  That’s enough to put this on my “go to” places list in the future! –JM
