With Mai Tai Sushi & Bar having opened earlier this month, I was anxious to see what might be missing from the already strong Worcester sushi scene and was pleasantly surprised by the list of unique makimono rolls. Although Mai Tai has the safe standards known to the casual sushi consumer, it’s list of special rolls offer something a little different, including the Fire Dragon roll. Combining two sea favorites, the Fire Dragon includes two shrimp tempura with cream cheese, cucumber, and avocado rolled into a soya bean wrap. The roll is then topped with baked spicy salmon, scallion, eel sauce, and a flavorful spicy Japanese mayo. The textures, flavors, and presentation are a great example of how to bring something new to an already impressive sushi scene here in Worcester.

Chicken Souvlaki
The Chicken Souvlaki from Zorba’s Taverna Restaurant and Bar was exactly what I expected from a restaurant specializing in Greek cuisine – delicious! There was a generous amount of tzatziki sauce, which made the sandwich messy but wonderful. I didn’t taste the Greek dressing, but its flavor may have blended with the tzatziki. It would have been nice if there were a few more pieces of chicken in the wrap to make it feel more substantial and to keep me from picking at the side of generic fries. I did discover, however, that the fries were improved upon dipping into the extra tzatziki sauce. This sandwich does come with one warning – don’t make this a date night choice unless your partner is indulging in something with tzatziki as well as the garlic flavor is quite strong!
