Beefteki

The Beefteki at Zorba’s Taverna Restaurant and Bar made me nostalgic of my recent trip to Greece. Consisting of ground sirloin stuffed with fresh garlic and herbs, diced onions and mozzarella cheese topped with sauteed plum tomatoes, the Beefteki was cooked to perfection and the sauteed plum tomatoes gave a nice dimension to the dish. I chose Greek Lemon potatoes instead of the mashed potatoes, which were great tasting but could perhaps have had a little more lemon added.  I truly enjoyed the flavors and presentation of my food which played well with the excellent atmosphere of the restaurant. I would say at perfect choice of restaurant where you get a good value for your money.

Pineapple and Honey Glazed Salmon

To begin with, Zorba’s Taverna Restaurant and Bar isn’t your grandmother’s Christo’s. With its new island bar layout and polished hardwood floors, Zorba’s is a much-needed upgrade for this tired old building. The innovative menu is a shot in the arm, too. There is an abundance of choices, and I finally went with the Pineapple and Honey Glazed Salmon. I wasn’t disappointed. The fish was crispy with just the right taste of sweetness. I usually pay less heed to image than actual quality, but here even the presentation was pleasing to match the deliciousness. With slightly larger portions of sides (asparagus and potatoes), there may have been enough to take home, but admittedly I was pretty hungry all afternoon so I didn’t expect this dish to make it through the night. The only negative of this meal was the Lemon Greek Potatoes were already room temperature when they arrived. -BJH
