Oak Barrel Tavern Offers A Delicious Veggie Burger Option

Veggie Burger on a multi-grain bun with lettuce, tomato and mayo from Oak Barrel Tavern on Grove Street in Worcester, MA.jpg

Walking into the Oak Barrel Tavern I could not believe it was the old Tweeds, what a wonderful job they did updating it. At the far end of the restaurant is a gas fireplace and some cozy seats around it to enjoy a drink. The bar area is large and they incorporated some oak barrels for decoration that look fantastic. I almost like the bar area more than the dining area it is so cozy.

The menu had a lot of tempting items on it, I loved the variety and twists on the mac & cheese, though, I opted for the Veggie burger with lettuce, tomato, mayo on a multi-grain bun with a side of crinkle cut fries. It was a large, delicious burger with a lot of veggies and even bits of potato in it (not the typical frozen, bland kind). The fries, well, they were crinkle cut, what more can I say? Delicious, and they happen to be my favorite!

Matt was our waiter. He was very attentive, always around for drink refills or whatever we might need. Our food came out fast which was a bit surprising seeing as the restaurant was pretty busy for a Tuesday.

I would suggest the Oak Barrel for some great pub food, interesting variety of pub items or just go to enjoy the bar area or the fireplace! The food arrives quickly and the service is great and the overall atmosphere is comfortable and cozy.

The Fix’s Veggie Burger

The Fix's Veggie Burger

The Fix's Veggie Burger

Niche has done it again with their newest restaurant The Fix. A burger joint that specializes in unique libations and intriguing burgers like the crunchy burger and ahi tuna burger. Once the original Mezcal on Shrewsbury Street, the restaurant has undergone a moderate face lift with a more casual appearance and comfortable decor.

I had been to The Fix four times prior to our Foodies outing! Each time choosing something new off the menu. I was never disappointed!

Tonight…with my fellow foodies, I decided to go out on a limb and stray from their perfectly crafted beef burgers and order the veggie burger. While waiting for my meal to arrive, the Foodies were greeted by the chef who proceeded to send out various appetizers including wings, pork belly, and short rib nachos…all absolutely delicious. Our server was attentive and the manager checked in on us numerous times throughout the evening to make sure we were satisfied.

When my burger arrived it looked delicious! I decided on the onion rings as my side of choice and they came hot with a light, crispy batter full of flavor! I sliced my burger in half to get a good view of what I was about to eat….the burger itself was made up of chickpeas and other beans mashed together with various seeds and spices. The sesame bun was lightly toasted with a layer of mayonnaise complete with lettuce, tomato, and sunflower seeds. I was eager to take my first bite, however, when I did, I was disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, you’re probably already thinking how crazy I was to begin with ordering a veggies burger when the beef options are the restaurant’s true specialty…but I wanted to try something a little different. It’s also important to note that I am a huge fan of veggie burgers and have a few of my own recipes that I make at least 2-3 times a month. While my homemade veggie burgers contain visible veggies and beans, this one was monotone in color and was not able to keep it’s form once a bite was taken. I ended up taking it off the bun and eating it with a fork.

All in all, I would recommend The Fix without hesitation! Speaking from experience, the Pork Belly Burger (yes…pork belly ON TOP of a burger) and Crunchy Burger complete with homemade chips and crispy prosciutto…are simply to die for. My one recommendation…skip your vegetables and go for the red meat!
