Hu Tieu My Tho

Hu Tieu My Tho from Dalat on Park Avenue in Worcester, MA

Located on Park Ave in Worcester Dalat is a small place situated right on Park Avenue. The atmosphere is pretty nonexistent but what they lack in atmosphere they make up for in their food and outstanding service.  Our server spoke excellent English and was very knowledgeable about the menu items. In fact she had all the numbers memorized but appropriately responded back after I gave her my corresponding number with a short description of what I really ordered so as not to have any mistakes.

My husband and I chose an appetizer to share from the menu that sounded interesting. We chose “Goi Sua Tom” This was a salad of chicken and shredded cabbage with a very light vinegar type dressing. It was nicely sized to share and was a refreshing start to our meal.

For my meal I chose the “Seafood Noodle Soup” It had some crazy Vietnamese name called “Hu Tieu My Tho” That I can’t even begin to attempt to reproduce with my American accent. It was delicious however and came with a side of bean sprouts. I added several squirts of Sriracha sauce to mine to add a little bit of spice and found it to be very healthy with clear noodles and well filled with seafood including shrimp, fish cake slices, crabmeat and fish balls. I was only mildly disappointed to find my crabmeat of the “imitation variety;” I shouldn’t have expected real crabmeat but a girl can dream.

I would recommend this place to my friends and I would like to come back some time and try other items on the menu.

Ahi Burger from The Fix

Ahi Burger from The Fix on Shrewsbury Street in Worcester, MA

The Fix Burger Bar was the June stop for Foodies; just happen to be my birthday as well so I was looking forward to a fun filled evening with great friends. If you had been at the original Mezcal then you would recognize the layout, yet the décor was changed. The overall atmosphere was low key and inviting.

I do not eat red meat but assumed they would be sure to have a veggie burger or perhaps even a fish burger. Not sure if I have mentioned before but I do not look at a menu before I go to a new restaurant, I love the element of surprise. To my delight, they offered both a veggie and fish, along with some non-meat meals as well.

I ordered the sangria to start – oh wait, we are talking about food. Okay, we ordered the Blue Cheese Polenta Tater Tots to start and share, they were delicious. Coated perfectly, the childhood memory of a tater tot was brought to an adult level, sophisticated with a twist. They were accompanied by a duo of delicious dipping sauces. One very spicy the other, blue cheese was for me the perfect sauce for dipping.

The Chef was so gracious to send out many of the appetizers they have to offer for us to all sample and share. I have to say the Chicken Wings were amazing! I do not really care for wings but the flavor/rub on these and the crispiness was just perfection.

For my meal I ordered the “Non-Burger” The Ahi – Seared tuna, spicy kimchi (had them hold), sesame chips, Sriracha aioli, sweet soy, sesame roll, side of the veggie fries. I have to say, I loved this non-burger, burger. The fish was cooked perfectly, seared just enough but not too raw. The flavors were robust and not too spicy, just a delicious mix of flavor and texture. The veggie fries were very good, lightly battered and tasty, very different. Our server was a great sport with how loud and large our group was. She was very attentive and welcoming. Kudos to her, and the Chef of course.

I will certainly go back to The Fix, loved the food, the adult milk shakes sounded amazing for a dessert drink but I was super full. In addition, let’s be honest, I need more chicken wings! You thought I was going to say sangria, didn’t you?
