Mousaka

The Mousaka available at Ritual on Main Street.

Restaurant: Ritual, Main Street

As it appears in the menu: Eggplant stack, stuffed with seasoned beef and béchamel cream sauce.

The Facts: Three layers of meat (ground beef) and lightly fried eggplant. The dish was topped in a light potato crust.

Foodie’s Review: The presentation was flt (not stacked as indicated in the menu) and boring as it also lacked a garnish. With that said, the first bite was flavorful and delicious. The meat was seasoned well and the eggplant was lightly fried and tasted of hints of lemon and olive oil. The dish was reminiscent of Shepherds pie. Overally, a good dish, but could have been improved upon in appearance and being accompanied by a side.

Pollo Con Rappini

Pollo Con Rappini at Piccolo's on Shrewsbury Street

Restaurant: Piccolo’s, Shrewsbury Street

As it appears in the menu: Sauteed chicken, broccoli, roasted garlic, a little red chile, extra virgin olive oil with linguine (added Clem’s sausage as recommended by the server).

The Facts: Generous portion of spaghetti, chicken, crumbled sausage and broccoli served with a light olive oil sauce. At least two meals worth.

Foodie’s Review: It truly tastes like a homemade meal—only better (sorry, dear!. Simple, fresh ingredients, very well prepared. The recommended addition of spicy sausage added just the right flavor and consistency. Looking forward to tomorrow’s left overs.
