Fish Tacos

Fish Tacos from Flying Rhino on Shrewsbury Street in Worcester, Massachusetts

Flying Rhino was the first restaurant I ate at when I moved to Worcester over ten years ago and very happy to see it thriving still. It has a very familiar and warm but eclectic feeling to it. One of the greatest treats is that the menu changes seasonally, but some of my favorites remain consistent. In this visit with Worcester Foodies, I decided to go with one of my old staples: Fish Tacos. In all honesty, I could order these every time and not be bored by it. It’s that yummy.

The fish tacos were light and refreshing with lightly fried white fish, cole slaw and avocado wrapped inside corn tortillas and topped with a spicy chipotle tartar. The creamy avocado slices provide the balance to the tartar. With the tacos, you can choose from a few different options varying from French fries, beans to broccoli slaw. I have always varied between the beans and broccoli slaw with the slaw winning out this time. Even if you don’t enjoy broccoli I think you might enjoy this slaw as it mixed with a light creamy dressing. It was a perfect sized portion for me but for those with very hearty appetites you might want to first start out with a “Wild Bite Appetizer.”

If you are looking for a fun, relaxing place for a great meal, be sure to check our Flying Rhino! -MM

Ivory Tusk

Ivory Tusk from Flying Rhino on Shrewsbury Street in Worcester, MA

The Flying Rhino is one of my favorite “watering holes” in Worcester. I love the eclectic vibe, food, atmosphere, and come warm weather, the alfresco dining. As an individual who prides herself on eating relatively “healthy”, I am thrilled that the Flying Rhino is endorsed by WooFood.

On this Tuesday night out, I was shocked and pleasantly surprised at how busy the restaurant was. I love when establishments are crowded, especially on what most would consider a “slower” evening. Upon reading the menu, I knew almost immediately what I wanted. One of my long time favorite, go-to dishes, the Ivory Tusk. The twist for this foodies event…this usually decadent dish has received a Woo Food makeover, and is delightful. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with the Ivory Tusk…essentially, it is a Philly cheesesteak made with chicken instead of steak. The traditional dish is served with your choice of homemade French fries, black beans, or broccoli slaw. The sandwich itself is a heaping portion of chicken, caramelized onions, and American cheese on a crusty baguette. Simply delicious. Once slimmed down to meet the WooFood requirements, the sandwich are now served tucked tightly inside a whole-wheat wrap with a slightly smaller portion of chicken-cheesy goodness. As a side, broccoli slaw made with crunchy broccoli florets, red onions, shaved carrots, and cranberries in a light mayonnaise…overall, the perfect companion to the sandwich. I know…you skeptics may not believe that the WooFood version of the Ivory Tusk is as good as the original, but I can promise you…it is better!  -AV
