Grilled Swordfish

Upon entering Lago Ristorante, we were greeted by a striking woman with gorgeous hair. She was friendly and spirited.

Looking through the menu, I was happy to see so many fish options as I tend to order fish when I eat out. I am always a fan of soup du jour so I was sure to ask our very nice waitress what was being offered. I was elated to hear that they were offering a chicken noodle soup. When the soup arrived, it appeared to be very full of all the good ingredients and it was at a perfect temperature. Upon my first bite, I knew that none would be left behind. The broth was mild but flavored with some fantastic spices and herbs. The vegetables and chicken were abundant and tasted delicious. Overall, this was the highlight of my meal; I should add that the bread was delectable with a soft texture and some wonderful infused herbs with great dipping oil.

I decide to order the grilled swordfish (always a favorite of mine) seasoned with lemon pepper and the double vegetable as a side. The swordfish was a perfect size and the sautéed vegetables looked delicious. I thought the swordfish was seasoned very well; it was not overly seasoned and was cooked perfectly. The vegetables were very enjoyable, there was one vegetable that none of us at my table could discern so we asked the owner what this mystery vegetable was and he said it was eggplant; that was a fantastic addition! I would certainly try Lago again as the prices were reasonable and the food was very good.

Swordfish Hibachi Dinner

I chose to go with the Hibachi dinner here at Hirosaki Prime and I was not disappointed (although it was a tough choice because the rest of the menu looked outstanding).  The chefs were pretty talented with their tricks and enthusiastic too. The soup and salad you get with the hibachi dinner were both awesome – I really liked the dressing on the salad. I also liked that you had the option for either the miso soup or onion soup – something I haven’t seen other hibachi restaurants offer before. I chose the onion soup was  it hot and comforting as soup should be.  I opted to get the friend rice also cooked on the hibachi grill and it was yummy with their signature mayo based sauce drizzled all over it, although I was slightly disappointed it didn’t come standard with the meal ( of coarse those who prefer plain sticky rice I am sure would appreciate this).  I’ve been to many Hibachi restaurants and I’ve ordered many things from the menu, but this was the first place I have ever ordered swordfish – and what a treat it was. I was a bit apprehensive about picking the swordfish because it is so easy to over cook , but it was rewarded and it was perfectly cooked and smothered in a sweet teriyaki sauce.

It did take awhile, from the time we got there to the time I left, but it was dinner and a show, and the food was delicious so I didn’t mind so much. Hirosaki Prime seems to have a some unique tricks which make it stand out from your typical hibachi restaurants – and worth the try. -SB
