Always looking to innovate, Lock 50 owner Ed Russo has brought heated igloos to his outdoor patio. “During the good weather months our patio is extremely popular, whether enjoying dinner with that someone special, or just drinks and small plates with friends, our patio is always busy,” said Russo. Add in their Tiki Bar, oyster nights, live music and other special events and the patio at Lock 50 is definitely a place full of excitement. Now, Russo is extending that excitement with the addition of 5 large, clear igloo’s on the patio to help combat what Mother Nature throws at us here in Worcester.

The heated igloos sit on the existing patio, are lit with neon-colored lights, include plants, carpets and even an electric fireplace in one. Different seating arrangements in different igloos accommodate different parties, with some set for intimate dining, while another is set for a more casual gathering with six comfortable chairs around a large coffee table. “Each igloo has a portable heater, but in most cases, the igloo design, combined with the body heat of our guests, make the igloos plenty warm and comfortable,” Russo said. We are thinking add in a glass of wine from Lock 50’s amazing wine selection and the igloo will warm up in no time!

No matter the occasion, the igloos on the patio at Lock 50 offer a new and exciting way to beat the winter blues. So now, even if you see snow and cold in the forecast, you can still get that feeling of dining “al fresco” at Lock 50. The igloos will be available on a “first come, first served” basis.

Sarah Goes Live with Jenny Johnson and Champy

Sarah chats Champy with founder, and TV producer/host, Jenny Johnson.

Emmy Award Winner, Jenny Johnson, dropped by Civic Kitchen & Drink last night for a Grand Opening party on the picturesque patio. Johnson brought cases of Champy, her lush new bubbly brand, to share with guests. She chatted with Mass Foodies about the central Mass restaurant scene, the vision for Champy, and her recent travels. You can catch Johnson on NESN’s Dining Playbook on Saturdays at 9 a.m. along with co-host Billy Costa. On working with Costa, Johnson told Mass Foodies, “We have a lot of fun and that crazy man keeps me pretty busy!” We were pleased to whisk her away for a few hours and watch the gorgeous sunset overlooking Westborough Country Club.
