Nestled in what appears to be a small location on Park Avenue, Baba Sushi offers a fun and vibrant spot for exceptional sushi in Worcester. We sat in the back patio section of Baba, which was tastefully finished with warm tones and textures.

Our server, Brad, was knowledgeable and prompt providing impressive insight into the menu. For my main course, I opted for the Chef’s Seafood Sampler. After asking him what was in the sampler, I was told it included a Lobster Salad, Crab and Cucumber Salad, and Chopped Tuna Salad.

I was amazed at what sounded like a bargain offering—three seafood salads as an appetizer at one low price. I was not disappointed when the plate arrived.

I was delighted to see a lobster salad served over a corn and pepper relish and garnished with caviar. Seeing that made me want to drop my chopsticks and grab a spoon to finish every last bite.

The crab and cucumber salad was also delicious. There was a healthy portion of shredded crabstick with cucumber and tobiko.

For the third, the chopped sushi grade tuna salad was rolled in panko breadcrumbs, garnished with greens, and served with a spicy mayo sauce.

The lobster salad provided the sweet and savory part of the trio while the crab and cucumber provided the crisp and crunch part of the meal. The tuna salad ended the trio with a little crunch and spice.

Quite possibly the Chef’s Seafood Sampler is going to be one of my new favorite dishes in Worcester because of the value and the fantastic variety.

In addition to our server Brad’s knowledge, the overall service was outstanding. We were greeted promptly. The food came out correctly in a reasonable amount of time, which I thought was remarkable for a large group and a complex menu. Brad is truly a professional.

Baba offers top-quality sushi in a tastefully decorated Worcester location. It’s a great place for a business dinner or a date. There is ample parking in the lot behind the restaurant. When you visit don’t forget to try the Chef’s Salad Sampler, which is quite possibly one of the best values around.

Baba Sushi’s Tuna Tartaki

Tuna Tartaki from Baba Sushi on Park Avenue in Worcester, MA

I have been to Baba Sushi several times and I have enjoyed the atmosphere but I love the new back room. The water feature, the cool walls, and the skylights transport you away from busy Park Ave. Instead of feeling like you’re at a restaurant, you feel like you are dining in someone’s beautifully manicured garden.

To start, I ordered the always-addicting edamame—served steamed and salted.
For my meal I selected the tuna tartaki, which is pan-seared tuna served rare over sliced avocado with a light wasabi sauce. I also ordered the yaki tori—chicken skewers with teriyaki sauce.

I thought the tuna could have had more wasabi sauce and seemed to be missing something—not sure what. The chicken had a delicious flavor but was a bit overcooked.

My cocktails were excellent. And, I hate to even say this but overall my food was just O.K. Looking at the sushi all around me, I had food envy. I should have opted for sushi instead.

Our server was fantastic. It is never an easy task to accommodate such a large group. He was friendly and attentive. I was happy to see the owner, Wilson, come out to say hello to us and send over complimentary sake shots to cap the evening. That was a nice touch!

If you have not been to Baba, I recommend it. The sushi looked amazing, the atmosphere is fantastic and the service is always excellent. I know I will be back. Next time, however, I will order some of the delicious sushi!
