As the warmer days of spring and summer approach, consider the Hawaiian Margarita at Plaza Azteca. This refreshing and brightly colored concoction is made with standard Jose Cuervo, Blue Curacao and pineapple juice with the option of a glass rimmed with either sugar or salt. But be forewarned, Plaza Azteca is a family style restaurant so the alcohol level is relatively low in this drink.

Ground Beef Burriotos
Menu Description: Ground beef burritos with corn, tomato, black beans, red onion and queso blanco in baked flour tortillas topped with mole rojo and cilantro cream.
Flavors: When I saw the dish, I was like, “wow that is one large burrito.” I was excited to break into the dish and wasn’t disappointed… there was a large portion of seasoned ground beef, surrounded by a medley of corn, tomatoes, black beans and red onion and of course the queso blanco bringing it all together. The shell was lightly baked and covered in a nice cream and mole sauce that brought a bit of sweetness, creaminess, and spiciness to the dish. For those worried about it being too spicy – no fear – it just had that little kick to let you know there is flavor.
The Facts: The burrito was pleasantly accompanied with a jicama, cabbage, carrot slaw, and a side of Spanish rice that had just a little kick – the slaw helped to tame the little spiciness it had. For that extra spiciness since I like it spicy, I went for it and added some of the “ghost Chile sauce” – that brought the added fire to the dish. But watch out – that added sauce was hot and not for the faint of heart.
Opinion: Overall a good meal that seemed to be the right portion size to not leave me too full but not still hungry. It paired well with the Peach, Pear, Apricot Margarita and the house made guacamole and salsa. I would recommend this dish. Don’t forget to try the creamy guacamole and salsa/chips – very fresh and hits the spot while you are enjoying your pre dinner margarita!
