What says “celebration” more than sabering your own sparkling wine? When Napoleon’s armies found success across Europe, his Hussar cavalry would slice the tops off of bottles of Champagne with their sabers to kick off their victory celebrations – it’s even said that the widow Clicquot, of Veuve Clicquot fame, inspired the practice by giving complimentary bottles to aristocratic officers as they rode past her vineyards, and who would promptly slice them open in an attempt to impress the wealthy, young heiress. In the years since, sabrage has become the most eye-catching way to open a bottle of bubbly – and we’re going to show you how! For $50 you’ll have your own experience in celebrating sparkling with for a good cause—100% of the proceeds for this will benefit the WooSox Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Worcester Red Sox.
